Top 10 Things to do in Niagara Falls USA During the Spring
After a long, cold winter, we’re excited for the spring activities Niagara Falls USA has to offer. With that in mind, here is a list of 10 things to do in Niagara Falls USA in spring.
1. Wander Goat Island.
With the weather warming up, what sounds better than a nice stroll overlooking the beautiful Niagara Rapids? Goat Island is also the access point for the Top of the Falls Restaurant (seasonal), Three Sisters Island, Terrapin Point, Luna Island and the Cave of the Winds, all located inside Niagara Falls State Park.
2. Head to the Lockport Locks for an engineering lesson — and artisan ice cream.
Whether you prefer walking, biking or boating over the countless bridges and by-ways, there’s no better time to visit the Lockport Locks than in early spring. Make it even better by viewing the engineering marvel of the Flight of Five locks while enjoying a craft cone (or dish) from Lake Effect Artisan Ice Cream.
3. Cruise the Canal.
After exploring the locks by foot, take a narrated cruise down the Erie Canal, drifting under the lift bridges being raised and lowered in Locks 34 & 35. (Open in May). Pro tip: Stop by Steamworks Coffee to get your caffeine fix before or after your cruise.
4. Sip some local wine.
Situated between the Niagara Escarpment and Lake Ontario, the Niagara wineries offer an impressive selection of wines – and ciders – for all tastes. Many wineries allow picnicking and strolling on their scenic grounds — perfect for a lovely spring day!
5. Step back in time.
The sun is out, the grass is green, which means a historical reenactment of the American Revolution in front of Old Fort Niagara can be enjoyed to its fullest. Come to the fort not only for the live history programs, but also for hourly musket demonstrations and tours of the many historical exhibits.
6. Shop ’til you drop.
Get ready for all things summer at the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls USA — named one of the top 10 Best Outlet Centers in the U.S. — where you can walk between stores such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, Coach and Kate Spade. Or check out our charming, locally owned boutiques — you’ll love wandering the shops in scenic Lockport and Lewiston.
7. Cast a line.
For those of you who would like to be as close to nature as possible to enjoy the beautiful spring weather, the Niagara region offers world-class fishing opportunities and boasts a long, diverse list of freshwater fish including salmon, trout, bass and walleye. The Niagara River, Lake Ontario, Lake Erie and the Erie Canal are all just a cast away.
8. Get wild.
Witness sea lion feedings outside at the Aquarium of Niagara, then travel indoors to see rescued marine mammals, Humboldt penguins and jellyfish. Don’t miss the Shark and Ray Bay Touch Pool, too. Daily programming includes presentations, feedings, and meet-the-expert sessions.
9. Hit the trail.
After a long, hard winter, the opportunity to pedal a bike ride sounds wonderful, right? Reddy Bikeshare’s 30 locations throughout the City of Niagara Falls, New York, make it easy to explore the area on two wheels. If two feet are more your speed, there are lovely hiking trails for every ability level — or opt for a guided hike!
10. Practice your swing.
With the picturesque Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Course in Lewiston (ranked sixth in the country as one of the top new golf venues) and plenty of other links scattered across the area, golf amateurs and pros can unite to enjoy a sunny day out on the greens in Niagara Falls USA.
