Must-See Outdoor Murals in Niagara Falls USA

While Niagara Falls USA is notably known for its scenic natural beauty, local artists are painting the town (literally) and creating colorful mural walls throughout the region. Located outdoors in already vibrant and unique communities, these Instagram-worthy walls are a must-see:

1. Art Alley | Niagara Falls

Completed in October 2016, Art Alley NF is a public mural project, located just minutes from Niagara Falls State Park. This innovative space combines a pedestrian walkway to public parking and 19 murals sponsored by local businesses and organizations. Bring your selfie A-game, or your entire wedding party for an added splash of color and positivity to your special day.

2. Artpark | Lewiston

Set high atop the Niagara River Gorge, this New York State park features all things art from live outdoor concerts to interactive installations. Executed by Chuck Tingley and dubbed “The Ascent,” this outdoor mural was crafted with acrylic and spray paint. Located in the Lower Park, nearest the Art Gallery and Box Office. While you’re there, be sure not to miss the re-installation of “Niagara 1979” by Gene Davis, located in parking lot C, adjacent to the Mainstage Theater. Supported by over 145 community backers to re-install the painting, this painted parking lot piece is made up of 60, two-foot wide by 364-foot long lines rolled in nine different colors.

3. Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls USA | Niagara Falls

More than 20 years ago, 3D-artist Erie Grohe painted “Niagara” on the side of Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls USA. Possibly one of the first mural walls in Niagara Falls, the image showcases a sweeping view of the iconic Niagara Falls and stretches 141 feet by 28 feet. The scene also features painted architectural elements common elsewhere on the existing building façade, along with actual visitors to the Falls.

4. Main Street | Lockport

Painted by muralist Augustina Droze, the “Mural on Main” combines images of Lockport’s past, present, and future. This 42-foot icon features the iconic Flight of Five Locks, central figures dressed in period clothing, and numerous inventions dreamed up in Lockport including the fire hydrant. The mural also showcases agricultural elements depicting the Niagara Wine Trail, USA, and the historic Erie Canal. After, walk across the street for a photo op with the new Love Lockport big-letter art installation.

5. Old Falls Street, USA | Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is feeling the love! Known as the “Honeymoon Capital,” the new “Let’s Fall in Love” mural at the corner of First and Old Falls Street, USA stretches 150 feet long and over 20 feet tall. Painted with a sherbet rainbow background, Casey Milbrand, the artist behind the mural, was inspired by the rainbows at the Falls, old love songs and the honeymoon era. Milbrand also created “Greetings from Buffalo” and “Lookin’ Good,” both located in downtown Buffalo.

6. Main Street | Niagara Falls

See the work of renowned local artist Polly King on display at the former Jenss Department Store on Main Street in downtown Niagara Falls. The five-story structure has a vibrant portrait of a woman in each of its 70+ windows. Known as the "Women of Niagara," this public art installation highlights the diverse, real women that Polly met and painted throughout the 20th century while living and working as an artist in Niagara Falls.

7. Depot Avenue & Main Street | Niagara Falls

Change is happening, especially along the walls of Depot Avenue and Main Street in Niagara Falls nearby the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Museum and Amtrak Station. Painted by local artists, these murals highlight “champions of change,” from Harriet Tubman to jazz great, John “Spider” Martin. The newest addition is a colorful and powerful “Black Lives Matter” mural. This multiphase heritage arts mural project will also incorporate a walking trail, promoting physical activity and additional things to see and do.

8. Third Street & Ferry Avenue | Niagara Falls

Designed and painted by local artist Paul Clifton, this “Greetings from Niagara Falls” mural is located on the side of Wine on Third. Each letter of the word “Niagara” depicts anchors of the region and hallmark events such as the Niagara Wine Trail USA, Nik Wallenda’s tightrope walk, the Niagara Gorge, the Niagara Power Vista, the U.S. flag and more.

9. Riviera Theatre | North Tonawanda

Cue the curtain call! After a structural issue halted completion of Tim Martin’s mural some twenty years ago, his vision is finally a reality. Located on the southern wall of the Riviera Theatre, the exquisitely detailed painting features Charlie Chaplin, and a packed concert hall – depicting the past and present of this historic gem.
