Date Night in Niagara Falls USA: 3 Romantic Ideas
From a day at the spa and a hands-on cooking class to a world-class vista made even more special with fireworks, these date nights (and days) go well beyond gazing at the Falls.
With legendary natural beauty, it’s no wonder Niagara Falls has a storied reputation as the Honeymoon Capital of the World that dates all the way back to 1801, where couples came to gaze at the Falls — and at each other. Nowadays, though, there are even more ways to fall in love in Niagara Falls USA, with a bounty of romantic outings and activities designed to relax, reconnect and spark a little magic.
1. Wine & Wandering Niagara County
What’s more romantic than leisurely tasting your way through the Niagara wine region? Hire a private car service, or ride-sharing driver to whisk you from vineyard to vineyard. Hit the wine trail, stopping at charming, family-run wineries with award-winning reds and whites.
The Niagara wine region includes more than two dozen wineries, tucked among the lush landscape near Lake Ontario. Taste the diverse selection of varietals — from Rieslings and sauvignon blanc to cabernet franc and pinot noir, there are wines to impress every taste. As you amble through wine country, make time to browse farm markets and find fruit preserves, apple butter, honey and other locally made treats to take home.
If you like beer, consider making a stop at New York Beer Project in Lockport. The brewery is open seven days a week and serves a rotating selection of brews, like the award-winning Lockport Lager and the Supernatural Sour — voted the most refreshing beer in America by National Brewing News.
After a day of exploring the bucolic region, make a night of it. There are plenty of quaint bed and breakfasts near the vineyards or choose to stay even closer. Places like Freedom Run Winery offer plush accommodations on the property. Here, stay in the historic manor house — decked out in antique furnishings, cherry wood floors and a four-poster bed — located right in the middle of the 80-acre grounds. Sip your last glass of the day while taking in the surrounding vineyards.
2. Feast Your Eyes on the Falls (and Foodie Fare)
Start your date a little early, and head to the Observation Tower to marvel at the Falls, looking particularly magical lit from within. (They’re illuminated every evening, with special LED lights that come in a spectrum of changing hues.) Afterward, choose your adventure.
Book a cooking or baking class at Niagara Falls Culinary Institute, located in Niagara Falls, and have hands-on fun learning how to make homemade pasta or perfect the best buttercream frosting. (Couples who learn to cook together have fun and always eat well!) Or book a table at Savor, the Culinary Institute’s upscale dining restaurant, where student chefs showcase their talents. Reservations strongly encouraged.
After dinner, catch a show at the historic Riviera Theatre, or head back to the Falls to spend the night at the Red Coach Inn. The cozy and historic bed and breakfast is inspired by an English inn, and, situated just 500 yards from the Falls, lets you fall asleep to the soothing sound of rushing water. Wake to complimentary breakfast in the morning — the promise of crème brûlée French toast will make it much easier to get out of bed.
3. One Lucky Night
Make a whole day (and night) of it at the Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino, situated within walking distance from the Falls. Kick off the day with a soothing couples’ massage or go all out and book the “Two of a Kind” treatment, which starts with a 30-minute private whirlpool dip and ends with Swedish massages and facials.
Spend a little time relaxing by the indoor pool before re-entering the world, and then check into your plush suite and get decked out for dinner and a show. Opt for one of the casino’s signature restaurants — the steakhouse or authentic Asian cuisine — and don’t forget to reserve tickets to one of the property’s rotating concerts or musicals, or a show at the onsite comedy club. Cap off the night with a visit to the blackjack table. Who knows? You might get lucky.
