48 Hours: A Shopping Adventure in Niagara Falls
Among the many reasons for planning your trip, shopping in Niagara Falls is a big one. Niagara County is home to both national brands and charming boutiques throughout the region.
It’s easy to spend two full days in Niagara Falls USA hunting for deals on everything from vintage goods to the latest electronics. Read on to find some of the best shopping destinations on this side of the Falls, and make sure to pack light. You’ll need plenty of room to bring back all your finds.
Day 1
Morning: Load Up at the Outlets
Head straight for the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls USA, and plan to spend a lot of time here. With over 120 brands in one place, this shopping mecca is the go-to destination for style-seekers. Quintessential American brands like Banana Republic, H&M, and The Gap share space with luxury labels like Kate Spade and Michael Kors. Come for kids’ clothing, sneakers and luggage finds, too, and don’t miss Marshalls for an ever-changing assortment of name-brand clothing, gifts, and home goods — all at discounted prices. Tip: Save even more with a digital Fashion Outlets Savings Pass, worth up to $800 in savings from participating retailers.
Afternoon: From Boutiques to Antiques
After exploring the outlets, take a scenic drive, about 30 minutes northeast to Tattered Tulip. On the way out of town, make a pit stop at Wagner’s Farm Market for a quick lunch in the restaurant attached to the market — the well-priced menu features a cheeseburger or homemade chili for $3.50, plus sandwiches, salads and ice cream — or just grab a snack. Wagner’s also sells locally made cheeses, fruit, and pies. Once you get to Tattered Tulip, prepare to spend some time exploring this charming, family-run shop — it’s a haven for vintage treasure hunters. Find antique home decor, including cool drawer pulls, kitchen canisters, candlesticks, baskets and more, plus vintage and repurposed furniture. Tip: Down the road a bit, Dollar General is a good place to stock up on school supplies, household cleaning products and drugstore beauty brands, all at rock bottom prices.
Evening: Work Up an Appetite?
When it’s time to break for dinner, take a drive back to Wegman’s. So much more than a supermarket, Wegman’s has a cult following for its vast selection of groceries, superb baked goods, and abundance of made-on-premises fresh foods. Choose from the made-from-scratch pizzas, hot or cold salad bars or opt for one of their infamous subs. Tip: Before you leave, pick up some non-perishable, hard-to-find products for your pantry.
Day 2
Morning: Niagara County Box Stores Galore
After a restorative rest at one of the many local hotels and inns, rise early for another shopping adventure. First, head for Hobby Lobby. The craft retail giant is home to plenty of supplies to inspire your next creative project — from bolts of colorful fabric to jewelry making kits and scrapbooking goods — but Hobby Lobby also has a robust home decor section, too. Refresh your space with new lamps, clocks, mirrors, throw pillows and more. Tip: Plan your visit accordingly as Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays.
Afternoon: For the Home
A short drive away, Target is a mandatory stop for a staggering assortment of well-priced goods. Look out for big named electronics and beauty products — from brands like Apple and New York City Spa Bliss — plus fashion and home decor collaborations with big-named designers like Hearth & Hand with Magnolia, the Chip and Joanna Gaines home collection. Refuel at the new on-site Starbucks. Tip: A short, 15-mile drive south is Macy’s, which beckons shoppers with a Canadian Visitor Savings Pass, offering an extra 15 percent off an extensive line of handbags, clothing, bed linens and bath towels, fashion jewelry and more.
Evening: Dinner & Dessert with Your Loot
Return for a relaxing dinner at La Hacienda of New York. The family-run restaurant has been around since 1949 and is beloved by locals and visitors alike for its Italian classics with house-made tomato sauce and filling antipasto platters. Tip: Finish off the day with a visit to Platter’s Chocolate Factory for a scoop or sundae using some of the area’s best ice cream.
